High Justice – the manual for Courtroom Drama

The court grants an adjournment. You have fourteen days to prove your client innocent. The evidence is two parsecs away.

Most roleplaying games reduce a trial to a single skill check. High Justice turns it into an adventure.

Designed for Traveller, but working for any game involving a courtoom drama, High Justice provides a complete framework for Imperial criminal proceedings, from arrest and bail through disclosure, courtroom argument, verdict and sentence. Cases are built from Charges, Assertions and Support, giving the players something concrete to attack rather than asking them to accumulate abstract successes. Contradict the prosecution. Discredit the witness. Recontextualise a fact everyone thought was damning. Cross-examine, object, call experts and use precedent. And when the evidence you need is somewhere else, ask the judge for an Adjournment.

The Traveller mission begins.

Information does not teleport across the Imperium. The original record may be sitting at a starport a parsec away. The missing witness may already have taken passage outbound. The engineer who can prove the component failed naturally has six days before her ship leaves. Win enough time from the Court, find a ship, pay the fare, retrieve what you need and get back before proceedings resume. An Adjournment Mission turns a point of evidence into a complete Traveller scenario with an objective, an obstruction and a clock that never stops running.

Inside you’ll find rules for building cases, preparing a defence, Flashbacks, Rebuttals, cross-examination, objections, witnesses and experts, depositions, bail, sentencing and appeal, together with tables for generating legal complications and three ready-to-run cases. The system is designed so the Referee determines what actually happened, but never decides in advance how the players must prove it. Clever arguments work. Unexpected investigations work. Sometimes the prosecution is right. Sometimes the evidence is right and means something entirely different.

High Justice is not a courtroom minigame bolted onto Traveller. It is a way to make law itself generate Traveller adventures.

The prosecution has a witness. You have a starship. Court resumes Monday.
