We’re recruiting…

Due to life and circumstance, I’m looking for a couple of extra people for our weekly game sessions. The Monday night/TTN group needs at least one person maybe two, the “various nights call of cthulhu” group needs only one.

So where are all these gamers?

RPGPundit puts it well.

…today, the average parent doesn’t fear RPGs will turn their child into a satan worshiper; the average parent fears that RPGs will turn their kid into a mouth-breathing basement-dweller who they’ll have to support well into their 30s and who will suffer from a host of psycho-social disorders, as well as lifetime virginity.

This might explain why there seems to be a dearth of gamers. I admit, had I not been totally busy on the weekend of Q-CON XIV that I might have tried to recruit.

Hmmm….the guy seems to be a bit of a ‘hater’ (those references to ‘swine’ creep me out a bit) but this is of course true. ‘Fear of Girls’ is worth a watch if you haven’t seen it… But then again, I’d say at least half the gamers I’ve met (well, 100% of those I’ve met in the last year) aren’t like that at all. Though that’s not really as comforting as it should be.

  2. matt says:

Yeah Jim “at least half” is not comforting at all.

RPGPundit hates everyone. I like his blog as a result 🙂

You’ve not likely met many actual “swine”. I know a few of them from the “good ol’ days”

…well looking at one thread on TheRPGsite, ‘swine’ could include us Cthulhu players, as hey, that was poncy arty shite once upon a time (whereas now it’s all clunky and old-school). But anyway…as far as recruitment goes, I fear we’re limited to standing at the top of the RPGnet and Yog-Sothoth forums and beating our chests…

No….swine isn’t about what games you play or even if you prefer narrativist styles over simulationist or whatever.

Swine are those people who think they are superior because of the games they play.

End of the day, we have to remember we’re the guys the nerds and dorks laugh at.

…on a second viewing of ‘Fear of Girls’ – it’s quite funny if you ignore the lame ‘Christian relatives’ bit; the LARP sequence with its brief defensive self-justification (‘It’s called Larping. Tons of people do it’) is semi-inspired (well, would be if you toned down the OTT homoeroticism). But yes…there’s an interesting discussion to be had at RPGnet about social shame and RPGs. Or there would be, were there not tons of posters who’d effectively shout you down and tell you admitting to shame made you even more of a loser…
